Veteran's Day, A Tale of Two Wars, Part 1.Posted by Matt Shalvatis Photography (Kiev, Ukraine) on 10 November 2007 in Cityscape & Urban. Societies tend to have commemorations of those who fought and died in their wars. You see these commemorations in many parts of Kiev. The size and the importance of individual statues and parks, and how many there are and how big they are, depends on a number of things. The two most important is whether your country had to force out invaders, and if you won the war. Using this criteria, it's not surprising to see numerous WWII statues and memorials all over Kiev. This WWII memorial is found at the Great Patriotic War Museum park and is one of many on the site. My blogs: My Kiev Journal and Mac Goodies More at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattsh/.
